Crowns and Bridges

Seeking a dentist for crowns in Denton, TX?

PDM_Crown_Placement_Procedure.jpgConsidering seeing a dentist for crowns? If so, it is important to understand what kind of issues might warrant a dental crown treatment so you can make an informed decision. Depending on your situation, Dr. Todd McCracken may recommend a bridge or an alternate treatment to a dental crown.

A dental crown consists of a tooth-shaped cap, which is fitted closely over the tooth and used to restore its appearance or strength. A dental crown can be used to remedy a variety of oral issues, including:

  • Holding together a cracked tooth that has been weakened by decay
  • Fixing a tooth that is severely worn down or broken
  • Holding a dental bridge in place
  • Disguising discolored or misshapen teeth
  • Covering a root canal
  • Restoring the function of a lost tooth in cases where a dental implant has been placed
  • Covering and supporting a tooth with a large filling in cases where little of the tooth remains

The dental crown procedure usually takes three office visits total. Two visits are typically needed to prepare the tooth for the crown. During these appointments, x-rays are taken and Dr. McCracken will evaluate whether the tooth and neighboring bone are healthy enough to support the dental crown in addition to using the crown material to create an impression that will later be used to construct your crown. At the third visit, Dr. McCracken will place and cement the custom-made dental crown.

Dental Bridges in Denton, TX

A bridge is a false tooth that is bonded to the teeth bordering the gap. Dentists use bridges to literally bridge the space between one or more missing teeth. Bridges offer many aesthetic and functional benefits, including helping to preserve the shape of your face, preventing teeth from misaligning, and distributing bite forces.

If you are seeking a dentist for crowns or bridge treatments, Dr. Todd McCracken offers both procedures at his Denton, Texas office.
